13th Annual Talons Challenge

Beaver Creek Talons Challenge

February 20, 2016

Beaver Creek's most advanced runs from the Birds of Prey across Grouse Mountain to Larkspur Bowl make up the Talons terrain, which is certain to test even the most experienced skiers and riders. Beaver Creek has established "The Talons Challenge" as the standard for taming the terrain. This program is exclusively offered to students of the Beaver Creek Ski and Snowboard Schools or during our one-day public Talons Challenge event on Saturday, February 20th, 2016.

For the 13th year, Talons Challenge will be showcasing the best steeps Beaver Creek has to offer. Over 26,000 vertical feet of Black Diamond and Double Black Diamond runs await on Beaver Creek’s legendary World Cup Birds of Prey downhill course, Grouse Mountain, and in Larkspur Bowl. Conquer all 14 runs and earn your spot on the Talon's Wall-of-Fame.

The event is limited to the first 1,200 registrants. Last year's registration sold out, so register early to make sure you secure your spot on February 20th!

Included in your registration fee* (Advanced Online - $35 / Event Day via Cash or Credit - $40) is access to the Talons Challenge, lanyard and credential for tracking your runs, special 13th Edition Talons Challenge swag, food and drink, and a chance to win amazing prizes at the après party raffle at the all-new Talons Restaurant!
*Lift ticket not included with registration

Friday, February 19th

Pre-Registration & Credential Pickup: On-site pre-registration will be available on Friday, February 19th at the Helly Hansen trailer in Beaver Creek Village.

Saturday, February 20th

Parking & Transportation: Limited pay parking is available in Beaver Creek Village. Free parking is offered at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain with complimentary shuttles to the village. Arrive early to get your spot and get to the event quickly.

8:00am: Registration opens at the Helly Hansen trailer, located just before the covered bridge and entry into Beaver Creek. Please bring your completed TALONS RELEASE FORM to speed up the process. You’ll be given a Talons Credential and lanyard.

8:30am: The lifts open along with Talons Restaurant Registration – the event headquarters. If you want to bypass the registration at Helly Hansen trailer, head on up to the Talons Restaurant to register. You must have your own lift ticket or ski pass to access the event.

Once you have your Talons Credential, you are ready to start checking runs off the list. All 14 runs are accessed from the 3 lifts based out of the Red Tail Camp area (Birds of Prey Chair #9, Grouse Mtn Chair #10 and Larkspur Chair #11). After each run, we’ll have “Punchers” waiting in the lift lines. Let them know what run you just completed and they’ll punch it off on your credential.

Food and Beer/Soft Drink: Don’t forget, after 12PM your Talons Credential gets you complimentary food and drink at the New Talons Restaurant.

There are no double punch runs. For example, you cannot ski Screech Owl and Ptarmigan in one run. You’ll need to take a lift 14 times to complete the Talons Challenge and the glorious 26,000+ vertical feet.

Once you have finished all 14 runs, go to the Talons Restuarant Registration tent to pick up your rewards and commemorative gifts.

Talons Après Party: Hang around all day until 4pm at Talons Restaurant. We have tons of great t-shirts and raffle prizes to give away. The main raffles will be from 3:30-4pm. Restaurant gift certificates, spa packages, rafting trips, skis, bindings and much more - Your credential number is your raffle number and you must be present to win, so stick around and enjoy the party!
