14th Annual Talons Challenge

Beaver Creek Talons Challenge

February 25, 2017

Beaver Creek's most advanced runs from the Birds of Prey across Grouse Mountain to Larkspur Bowl make up the Talons terrain, which is certain to test even the most experienced skiers and riders. Beaver Creek has established "The Talons Challenge" as the standard for taming the terrain. This program is exclusively offered to students of the Beaver Creek Ski and Snowboard Schools or during our one-day public Talons Challenge event on Saturday, February 25th, 2017.

For the 14th year, Talons Challenge will showcase the best steeps Beaver Creek has to offer. Over 26,000 vertical feet of Black Diamond and Double Black Diamond runs await on Beaver Creek’s legendary World Cup Birds of Prey downhill course, Grouse Mountain and in Larkspur Bowl. Conquer all 14 runs and earn your spot on the Talon's Wall-of-Fame.

The event is limited to the first 1,250 registrants. This event does sell out, so register early to and secure your spot!

Your registration fee includes lunch and a beverage. All finishers will receive a special gift, a commemorative Talons Challenge pin, lanyard and credential, and a chance to win amazing prizes at the après party raffle at the Talons Restaurant! Participants must supply their own ski pass or lift ticket for this event.

Registration will be available in late November - check back here for updates!

Schedule of Events:

Friday, February 24th:

3:30pm - 5:30pm: Pre-Registration & Credential Pickup -

Stop by the Helly Hansen trailer, next to the Covered Bridge, to register for the event or pick up your credential if you registered online. Registration at the tent will be $TBD. (Processing fees may apply)

Saturday, February 25th:

8:00am - 10:00am: Credential Pick Up at the Helly Hansen Trailer - located just before the Covered Bridge and entry into Beaver Creek. You’ll be given a Talons credential and lanyard. The Helly Hansen Trailer will only have credentials for those who registered online. If you still need to register, head up to Talons Restaurant Event Headquarters.

8:30am: Chairlifts & Talons Headquarters Registration Open - If you want to bypass credential pickup at the Helly Hansen trailer, or still need to register for the event, head on up to the Talons Restaurant Event Headquarters. You must have your own lift ticket or ski pass to access the event.

12:00pm: Concessions Open at Talons Restaurant - Beginning at 12pm, your Talons Credential gets you complimentary food and a drink at Talons Restaurant.

1:45pm - 4:00pm: Après Party at Talons Restaurant - Soak up the sun on the spacious Talons deck while listening to live music from Rewind. We'll be giving away exclusive Talons Challenge t-shirts as well as plenty of prizes from our fantastic lineup of sponsors. Raffles begin at approximately 3pm. Your credential number serves as your raffle number and you must be present to win, so stick around and enjoy the party!

Additional Event Details:

  • Parking & Transportation: Limited pay parking is available in Beaver Creek Village. Parking is offered at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain with complimentary shuttles to the village. Arrive early to get your spot and get to the event quickly.
  • Run Access: All 14 runs are accessed from the 3 lifts based out of the Red Tail Camp area (Birds of Prey Chair #9, Grouse Mtn Chair #10 and Larkspur Chair #11). After each run, we’ll have “Punchers” waiting in the lift lines. Let them know what run you just completed and they’ll punch it off on your credential.
  • No Double Punch Runs: For example, you cannot ski Screech Owl and Ptarmigan in one run. You’ll need to take a lift 14 times to complete the Talons Challenge and the glorious 26,000+ vertical feet.
  • Aid Station: There will be an aid station available at the base of Talons Restaurant, providing snacks and beverages to keep you going throughout the day!
  • Finisher Gifts: Once you have finished all 14 runs - go to the Talons Restaurant Registration tent to pick up your commemorative Talons Challenge gifts.
