Preparing A World Class Mountain

skier panorama
Countless hours of hard work go in each year to prepare the mountain for opening day, and more importantly, to meet YOUR expectations; whether coming with the family, returning with friends or coming up locally for the day.  We strive to out-do ourselves each year and elevate the experience on the mountain and in the village, and this year is no exception.

Everyone comes together to ensure when opening day is here, when our lifts are spinning and the first chair is loaded; that we can provide a World Class mountain with the highest attention to detail from Rose Bowl to Arrowhead.

Below is a look at the preparations we all make to ensure Beaver Creek in a class of its own and to offer you a World Class experience when you arrive this season:

Opening Day

Opening Day - 11/21/12 (Click Here to Watch Video)

Believe it or not, winter preparations for every upcoming season begins shortly after closing day, and theres no stopping to the effort until our guests get to enjoy another memorable Opening Day. With out the enthusiasm, passion and hard work from the staff, Beaver Creek would never be as amazing as it is.

Ski Patrol Training - 11/12/12

The entire Ski Patrol team is back and ready for the new season; not wasting any time to ensure the mountain is prepped for another safe and fun winter. This past week new team-members went through orientation, and the entire crew brushed up on CPR, First Aid, lift & gondola evacuation, and will soon be getting trails ready.

Birds of Prey Race Course - 11/8/12

With the Audi Birds of Prey World Cup returning for another year on November 30th, the course is coming together through the support of winch-cats, the race department, and a dedicated snow making team - all to prepare the World Class course so top athletes can go head-to-head this winter.

Snowcat Fleet Maintenance - 10/23/12 (Click Here to Watch Video)

Believe it or not, all summer long the maintenance team has been servicing winter equipment in preparation for the upcoming season, and to ensure all things run smoothely when the snow begins to fall. With hundreds of snowmobiles, thirty-nine snowcats, eight winchcats and plenty of other machinery that needs attention - without their support Beaver Creek would be challenged to deliver the World Class Experience we promise.

Fan Gun Training - 10/15/12

With our first big fall storm this weekend, and temperatures nearing snowmaking conditions, the new team got practical training on the powerful fan guns. Before you know it, the crew will be staging these throughout the mountain and blowing snow in preparation for opening day!

Constructing Terrain Park Features - 10/9/12 (Click Here to Watch Video)

Every season the terrain park crew attempts to "out-do" themselves from the season before, and this year is no exception. All features are designed and built in house, where new concepts and recycled materials are brought to life (old lift towers).  All this effort, creativity and craftsmanship is done to ensure that we can offer a one-of-a-kind freestyle experience.

A World Cup mountain, home to the Ivy League of Ski & Snowboard Schools, also deserves World Class terrain parks.

Snowmaking Team Ready for Action - 10/8/12

This week we welcome a new crew of dedicated snowmakers to help run one of the most advanced snow systems in the world! Together this entire team work non-stop from now until closing day; working two 12hr shifts to produce the best conditions possible. If you wonder what that means, try managing 16 compressors, 32 water pumps and over 1,300 snow making hydrants across the mountain.

Racing Finish Area Development - 10/4/12

To provide the best viewing experience for our guests and a larger finish area for racers competing in the 2015 World Alpine Ski Championship, our crews have gone to great lengths to enhance the area beside Red Tail Camp. As part of the development plan, the Timing Building was carefully lifted by airbags, placed on a custom flatbed, and moved to a new area beside Chair # 9 with the help of some heavy machinery.

Snow Making Pipe Install - 9/24/12

Our mountain ops team was hard at work installing pipes on Kestrel, a new trail and part of the Women's 2015 Downhill course.  The new addition enhances our state-of-the-art snowmaking output to 680 acres! This is just one of the ways we help provide world class conditions each season.
